Nothing To Hide Backer Update #2

Just putting the whole thing here for you all to see! I suggested some educational resources on how to develop and create with open source/creative commons and what to expect when you do. What do you think?

What’s next for Nothing To Hide?

Howdy, @maevrim //!

Two weeks ago, Nothing To Hide was successfully funded thanks to you! In total, we raised $43K from 1800 backers. The first quarter of your Progress Pledges have been claimed, backer reward surveys sent, and 10% of claimed pledges donated to charities that protect your digital rights. And last week, I was showing off Nothing To Hide at the annual Game Developer Conference. (Did you know the creator of Surgeon Simulator 2013 played and loved our game? Coming soon, Surveillance Simulator 2014!)

Anyway, with all that out of the way, what’s next?

1) Level & Story Editor

This way, you can start making & sharing your own stories with each other. A modding community. I mean, that’s a huge part of being open-source, no? There’s a lot of potential stories that could be told within the Nothing To Hide universe, and I’m eager to see what you can come up with! Besides… I need a proper level editor, coz making levels takes a lot of time. I hope to show you an early version of a player-facing level/story editor by the end of April.

2) Community Shenanigans

I’m going to set up a subreddit & Steam Greenlight campaign for Nothing To Hide. The subreddit will be the best way for me to discuss design & development about the game, as well as for people to share levels with each other once the above Level Editor is public! And a Steam Greenlight, because, well, Steam.

3) Helping Other Open Artists/Coders (I need your thoughts on this!)

If you’re an artist/musician/writer/gamedev who cares about Free Culture / Open Source, please tell me — how can I help you? I genuinely want to help open art flourish. Maybe I could reuse my campaign site’s code, and create a marketplace / crowdfunding for open art? Give away prizes for open art? Create a tool/resource/hub for open artists? Make advocacy blogs/videos? Something else I haven’t thought of?…

Let me know your suggestions & advice! There’s 1800 of you reading this, so I might not be able to individually reply to everyone, but I promise I will read all of your responses. :)

P.S: If you’d like to make an iEye papercraft like the one above, here’s a high-resolution printout! The eye follows you… spooky.
